          1. WHAT ARE GRAND CHAPTER TRAVELING GAVELS?

The Grand Chapter’s Traveling Gavels (GCTG) are awards passed among Subordinate Chapters under the jurisdiction of the Grand Chapter of the State of Alabama.  There is a different gavel in each Section.  Each Gavel MUST stay in its own Section.  The Chapter that currently holds the GCTG in each Section will present the gavel to the Chapter with the most visitors from that Section at their next meeting (regular or special), and so forth.  The goal is to circulate these gavels to as many chapters as possible, and the Chapter who has had it the most times at the end of the year will be given the Gavel  The Gavel can then be displayed in your Chapter for all to see.  Also, by obtaining the Gavel, your Chapter will receive points which will be calculated for additional prizes by the Worthy Grand Matron at the end of the year.

          2. HOW CAN MY CHAPTER GET THE GRAND CHAPTER TRAVELING GAVEL?

See the Section above, which lists where the GCTG is currently located for each Section, and their Chapter’s info.  Then, bring the most visitors to their next meeting (stated or special).

          3. RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR GCTG:

          Reporting:

When your Chapter wins the GCTG, you should update the Grand Chapter Website that night, to allow Sisters and Brothers the chance to plan a trip to come get it.

          When To Give The Gavel:

Once your Chapter obtains the gavel, it must be given at your next meeting where visitors present from your section (doesn’t matter if it’s regular or special).

          Dual Members:

Dual Members may count towards BOTH Chapters they are members of, as long as it is in the same Section as the current location of that gavel.  If “Sister/Brother Jones” is a Member of Chapter A and Chapter B, then when counting visitors to see who gets the gavel, she/he may stand and be counted for BOTH Chapters.  This is left up to the individual Sister/Brother as to how she/he would like to be counted.

EXCEPTION:  When a member is a member of the current Chapter holding the gavel and another Chapter, they may not be counted as a visitor for their Dual Chapter.  They can only be counted when they are visiting a Chapter they are not a member of.

          Ties:

In the event there is more than one visiting Chapter, and there is a tie between those visiting Chapters, the visiting Chapter whose member was first to sign the register shall be declared the winner of the gavel.
